Industry Dialogue: Micron Executive Meet
Prof. Sanket Goel, Head of CREST, and Dr. Praloy Mondal, CREST Program Manager, were privileged to attend a distinguished meeting held at the Micron Hyderabad campus, which brought together leadership, innovation, and community spirit under one roof. The event began with a warm welcome and opening remarks by Anand Ramamoorthy, Vice President and Managing Director of Micron India, who shared an inspiring overview of Micron’s mission, vision, and its global impact in advancing semiconductor technology. This was followed by a networking lunch session featuring engaging dialogue with Scott DeBoer, Executive Vice President at Micron, and several regional leaders. The discussions centered around Micron’s cutting-edge memory and storage technologies, ongoing innovations, the strategic role of the Hyderabad campus, and the company’s strong commitment to community engagement and industry collaboration. The event served as a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and strengthened the collaborative spirit between academia and industry
Igniting Curiosity: STEM Engagement Workshops for St. Francis College Students
We conducted an intensive one-day training session for students of St. Francis College for Women, Hyderabad, designed to bridge academic learning with real-world applications in semiconductor technology. The session provided hands-on exposure to critical aspects of microfabrication, including cleanroom protocols, semiconductor device fabrication, and characterization techniques. Students had the unique opportunity to work with advanced instrumentation such as thermal evaporation, RF-sputtering, and electron-beam (e-beam) deposition systems, which are essential in the creation of thin-film semiconductor devices. They also gained information about Profilometers and Semiconductor Analysers to evaluate device properties and performance metrics. A key highlight of the workshop was the introduction to Optical Lithography, where students explored its fundamental role in microfabrication processes. This hands-on engagement not only deepened their technical understanding but also inspired greater curiosity and confidence in the field of semiconductor research and engineering.
XIX Monthly Colloquia
We were thrilled to host the 19th Colloquia this July, featuring a captivating keynote by Mr. Kalyan Bhiravabhatla, Senior Director of Technology at QUALCOMM India. His talk, titled "GPU Architecture and Emerging Trends," offered a deep dive into the evolution of Graphics Processing Units and their pivotal role in shaping today’s computational landscape.
The session introduced the fundamentals of GPU architecture, emphasizing their massively parallel design and scalability. Mr. Bhiravabhatla traced the architectural journey of GPUs, highlighting key milestones and how these innovations are now accelerating machine learning workloads.
